The Foundations course has been designed specifically for adults who wishto gain first hand understanding of mindfulness as a skill that can be cultivatedand incorporated into daily life.
In the sessions, participants will be learning to aim and sustain their attention in the present moment. They will be cultivating different attitudes as theypractise being mindful. These attitudes include non-judging, patience,beginners mind, trust, non-striving, acceptance, and letting go.
Key potential benefits of learning mindfulness can be:
– A calmer mind and increased ability to relax
– Improved concentration
– Becoming more efficient at work and at home
– Enhanced ability to deal with stress
– Increased self-awareness and acceptance of who we are, not trying
constantly to be someone or somewhere else
– Learning to respond, instead of react, to difficult situations
The face-to-face sessions last 90 minutes each and involve different
mindfulness practices, discussions, and some theory. There will be no need todo any writing or excessive thinking.
There will also be home practice after
each session and this will require a commitment of time, around 20 minuteseach day.
Each session focuses on a different aspect of mindfulness. Starting with the foundations of mindfulness (attention to the body and breath). Each session builds upon the last.

This course has been created by the Mindfulness in Schools Project, a nonprofit organisation whose aim is to encourage, support and research the teaching of secular mindfulness. The course is based on core mindfulness principles of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and MindfulnessBased Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and this can be the first step towardssatisfying pre-requisites for being eligible to attend teacher training courses.
After completing the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion.
