Off-Beat Holiday in April

With April fool’s Day, Songkran Day in Thailand. We are now counting down some of the off-beat to celebrate in the month of April, you may wish to enjoy.

April 2rd: WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY

World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), celebrated each year on April 2, was adopted by the United Nations in 2007 to shine a bright light on autism as a growing global health crisis. Autism is one of only three health issues to be recognized with its own day by the United Nations. WAAD activities increase world knowledge of autism and impart information about the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention. Additionally, WAAD celebrates the unique talents and skills of persons with autism around the world. On World Autism Awareness Day, Autism Speaks celebrates its international Light It up Blue Campaign. Thousands of iconic landmarks, communities, businesses and homes across the globe unite by shining bright blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals and families around the world affected by autism.

April 6th NATIONAL SORRY CHARLIE DAY

National Sorry Charlie Day is observed each year on April 6. This day encourages us to think about the times we have been rejected. Whether we’ve been rejected by a sweetheart or by a college, a prospective employer or by the bank for a loan, we’ve all been refused. National Sorry Charlie Day also gives us an opportunity to reflect on how we survived the rejection and what we learned from it. Do you remember Charlie the Tuna? He was often rejected but would keep going with a smile. “Sorry, Charlie” became closely associated with StarKist and was also a successful American catchphrase. Charlie never let rejection stop him. Do not let it stop you!

April 7th: WORLD HEALTH DAY

World Health Day organized by the World Health Organization, this day is a way to bring attention to current world health issues. World Health Day is an event celebrated on the founding day of the World Health Organization.

April 23th: ENGLISH LANGUAGE DAY

English Language Day explores the development, history, and culture of the English tongue. A Germanic language that began to develop during the 5th and 6th centuries when Anglo-Saxons settled in Britain, English is also influenced by French, Latin, and many other languages. While English is the most spoken language in the world, it is the native tongue for only one-quarter of those who speak it. Or more impressively, for three-quarters of those who speak English, it is at least their second language if not a third or fourth.

April 24th: INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE DAY

International Sculpture Day is celebrated in over 20 countries. Sculptors and admirers come together to enjoy, encourage and show support through a variety of events designed to keep sculpture at the center of the celebration. From workshops to demonstrations and of course tours and exhibits, artists and art lovers can get their fill of beautiful and moving pieces and experiences by spending time at any one of the participating locations.

April 25th: WORLD PENGUIN DAY World Penguin

Day recognizes one of the unique birds on the planet. There are 17 species of penguins, and all their natural habitats are in the Southern hemisphere. Did you know the Emperor Penguin is the biggest of the 18 penguin species and largest of all birds? There are estimated to be (2017) approximately 595,000 adult Emperors today, and from birth, they spend their entire life around the Antarctic ice. These wondrous critters also incubate their eggs like other birds; only they can do so in temperatures nearing -50 degrees Celsius – that’s cold! Empe ror Penguins are the tallest… about 4 feet tall. The smallest, Little Blue stands about 16 inches. And Penguins are excellent swimmers with the fastest penguin swimmer getting up to about 22 mph.

April 27th: NATIONAL TELL A STORY DAY

National Tell a Story Day is observed in the United States each year on April 27th. People of all ages are encouraged to share all kinds of stories on National Tell a Story Day. Whether it’s read from a book, one from your imagination or an actual story from a childhood memory, April 27th is the day to gather friends and family and share those stories. Libraries around the country participate in National Tell a Story Day with special storytelling times for children.

April 29th: INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY

Dance is the focus of the celebration on April 29. It is International Dance Day around the world; dance is a visual, cultural, emotional and physical expression that is enjoyed by both the dancer and the audience. Not only is dance a form of art, but it is used ceremonially, as a kind of exercise, or just purely for enjoyment.
